THE MONSTER ENERGY MX NATIONALS IS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED FOR 2013
The Monster Energy MX Nationals circus hit the Raymond Terrace MX Central facility in preparation for the 2013 season. It was a chance for teams to have a hit-out on the track that will host the first round of the 2013 season and for the media to see the teams in action. Promoter Kevin Williams officially introduced the 2013 series with a press conference before the teams took to the track for the first time. Monster Energy Kawasaki debuted its new-look machines as well as new rider Adam Monea. Jay Marmont sported his No 2 for the first time on board Kawasaki. On Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s team, Luke Styke and Luke Clout both have new numbers for 2013, Clout dropping the 2 from his trademark junior number of 192 to sport 19 and Styke with a big fat No 2 plastered on his bike.
Billy Mackenzie sported a cheeky «William» butt patch and looked very comfortable on his CDR Yamaha: a new team for 2013. If teammate Lawson Bopping’s whips over the finish-line jump were anything to go by, he’s comfortable and ready for a big season. Dan McCoy was also on board a CDR Yamaha, the same bike he raced Supercross on; he’ll be a Yamaha- and CDR-supported privateer for the MX Nationals season.
Туе Simmonds would be up for the award for the most laps; he punched lap after lap under the watchful eye of his team manager Craig Anderson. He looks fit and fast on the Berry Sweet Lucas Oil Yamaha.
Suzuki’s Cody Cooper and recent signing Matt Moss headed out for the first time as teammates in 2013. Both riders will be title contenders as the year progresses.
Kirk Gibbs and Todd Waters had the eyes of team manager Rob Twyerould and their mechanics as they punched laps on their new-look KTM team. The team is extremely corporate-looking for 2013 with a full KTM-branded bike and gear combo. Gibbs could be a surprise for the coming season, while Waters looks every bit the chance to battle
The day also featured as the first time in a long time to see Ryan Marmont nor on a KTM. He and Geran Stapleton will form the completely fresh Raceline Pirelli Suzuki team.
It was unfortunate to not see the official Honda team, Carlton Dry Honda, make the trip for the media launch. Recently signed rider Josh Cachia and Ben Townley will both be forces to be reckoned with in 2013.
